A Bit About Brussles Sprouts

Unlike the chunky, dry, strong flavored mini-cabbages many of us were first introduced to as children real homegrown Brussles Sprouts are tiny nubbins of concentrated yummy taste.

Here are what the harvested plants look like.

While this picture was taken in the mid summer if I were to plan better I’d plant the crop to be brought in after the first frosts.  All the cole crops taste better after the frost: broccoli, cabbages, collards, kale.  The long stalks of tiny sprouts are beautiful.

Lightly sauteed in a bit of water and butter then roasted with small dice of bacon – our Thanksgiving dish was delicious!
